CHANGES IN THE CHAPTER

The Archbishop of Dublin has appointed the Revd Canon Mark Gardner to be vicar of the cathedral parish. This means that he becomes an ex-officio member of the chapter as Prebendary of Tipperkevin. We welcome him as he moves the short distance from Christ Church Cathedral. He is a former minor canon of Saint Patrick’s.

The Revd Canon Maureen Ryan, one of the three NSMs on the chapter, is to resign from the end of December. She has been the representative canon of Tuam, Killala and Achonry since 2000. Her fine sermons will be missed and she kept her full residence and interacted with our many visitors during her time with us.

NEW ORGANIST & MASTER OF THE CHORISTERS

At its meeting on 9 November the Cathedral Board appointed Mr Stuart Nicholson as Organist and Master of the Choristers in succession to Mr Peter Barley.

Mr Nicholson is currently Assistant Director of Music of Saint Philip’s Cathedral in Birmingham, where he has worked since 2004. He is an honours graduate of the Royal College of Music, and he was Organ Scholar at the Temple Church and Saint Paul’s Cathedral, London. He then became Organist and Director of Music at Waltham Abbey. He is married to Victoria, a classical guitarist.

It is hoped that he will take up his appointment early in 2010.
