The Cathedral Choir School

The Cathedral Choir School is the oldest school in Ireland and the last remaining Choir School.

Ireland’s Oldest School (est. 1432)

Saint Patrick’s Cathedral Choir School was founded in 1432 by Archbishop Richard Talbot to provide for the education of the choristers.

“A great School indeed, musically classy, with the  best discipline and foundation a child needs for life.” Obinna Ulogwara (Chorister Parent)

The Choir School has had an almost continuous history, excluding the turbulence of the Reformation and Cromwell’s Commonwealth.

Nearly 600 years later, the Choir School continues to educate our choristers and is now a co-educational school under the patronage of the Church of Ireland. It provides education to pupils from Third to Sixth Class.

Becoming a Cathedral Chorister opens up a world of exciting performance opportunities: regular broadcasts, concerts, recordings, and tours. Want to learn more?

Admission into the Choir School is via a voice trial. For more information, visit our How to Apply page.
