The Friends of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral

Members of the Society of the Friends of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral support the life, mission and ministry of the Cathedral. They come from all walks of life and all denominations, but are united by their commitment to Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.  Each Friend’s name is inscribed in the Friends’ Roll, kept on display in the Cathedral. Each week a page of the roll is turned. The activities of the Friends of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral include a Festival Service and a Garden Party in June, visits to places of interest and other fundraising events.

Christmas Eve Carol Service – latest news, 11 Nov 2021

We would like to keep Friends up to date with the latest news regarding the Christmas Eve service of Nine Lessons and Carols.

The current government Covid-19 restrictions mean that there is likely to be a greatly reduced seating capacity in the cathedral on Christmas Eve.

As mentioned in Saint Patrick’s People, allocation of tickets for the carol service has, of course, nothing to do with the Friends and is entirely a matter for the cathedral. However, for those lucky enough to procure a ticket, proof of vaccination (ie. a vaccination certificate or proof of recovery from Covid-19) must be produced, masks must be worn and congregational singing cannot be allowed.

The carol service on the preceding Sunday is as usual the same as on Christmas Eve but we recognize that many Friends wish to be there on the 24th. However, the cathedral must abide by the state regulations in force at the time so there may be disappointment for some of those who apply for tickets. We hope that you will understand the cathedral’s position.

We will endeavour to keep you informed of any further developments.

How do I get tickets for the annual Christmas Eve Service?

The Christmas Eve Service of Nine Lessons and Carols is one of the most popular events in the Cathedral’s calendar. Due to its popularity, admission is by ticket only. Tickets are allocated to both Friends of and subscribers to the Cathedral.

Once you have become a Friend or subscribed to the Cathedral you can apply for tickets by sending a stamped self addressed envelope to the office of the Cathedral before 28 November.
