Music for Lunch

Our music for lunch recitals have been a very popular fixture in Heritage Week over the last few years. Sadly this year we can’t invite you to join us here but we can at least bring the music to you to enjoy from the safety and comfort of your own homes.

A teaser trailer will be posted on our facebook pages each morning – if you haven’t already “liked” us then there’s no better time than the present. The rest of the recital will then be available from our website from 1.00pm here.

MONDAY 17 AUGUST
Stuart Nicholson (organ)
We begin with the King of Instruments – the Cathedral’s Willis Organ, all 3,000 plus pipes of it! Performed by Cathedral Master of Music Stuart Nicholson, today’s programme moves away from the traditional organ repertoire and includes Leonard Bernstein’s Overtures to Candide and West Side Story.

TUESDAY 18 AUGUST
Victoria Green (guitar) and Stuart Nicholson (organ)
Our second recital features the unusual pairing of guitar and organ, husband and wife team of Victoria Green and Stuart Nicholson. Their programme includes music from A midsummer nights dream (Mendelssohn) and Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite.

WEDNESDAY 19 AUGUST
David Leigh (organ)
For our third recital we head back up to the loft for an organ recital given by Cathedral Organist David Leigh who has been giving recitals throughout the lockdown – live from the loft! Today’s will be his 42nd such recital since March, pop back on Friday for no.43!

THURSDAY 20 AUGUST
Eoghan Desmond (baritone)
Our fourth recital is given by Cathedral Lay Vicar and Chamber Choir Ireland member Eoghan Desmond and includes music by Gerald Finzi & Benjamin Britten.

FRIDAY 21 AUGUST
David Leigh (organ)
For our final recital this week we return to the loft and join Cathedral Organist David Leigh for his 43rd lockdown recital.
