FAQs
Below are some of our most frequently asked questions. If you have any questions that we have not covered please Contact Us.
- Is the Cathedral still used as a place of worship?
Yes, there are daily services. All are welcome to attend, and no ticket is necessary. More information can be found in the Worship section of the website.
- Why do I have to pay to enter the Cathedral?
Entry to the Cathedral is free for anyone attending worship — that remains our primary purpose. If you are here for a service, there is no admission fee.
For those visiting as part of a tour or to explore the building, we ask for a modest admission fee. Maintaining a historic Cathedral is costly: conservation of the fabric, heating, lighting, staffing, security, and the day-to-day care of the building all require significant funding. Unlike many comparable sites, the Cathedral does not receive regular government support, so these costs must be met largely through visitor income.
The admission fee helps keep the building open and properly maintained — ensuring it can continue to function both as a place of worship and as a historic landmark open to the visitors from all over the world.
- I bought an online ticket. Can I change my date/time?
Individuals & Families
Yes, if you have booked fewer than 10 people, you can use the same ticket at any other date or time (please check our opening times). There is no need to inform us in advance or change your ticket.
Groups (10+)
If you need to change a booking for a group of more than 10 people, please email us at tours@stpatrickscathedral.ie to arrange an alternative time.
- Is there a discount for visitors with disabilities and their carers?
Entry to the Cathedral is free of charge for visitors with a disability for their companion/carer (maximum one person). Please show our staff your disability card upon arrival.
- Is the Cathedral wheelchair accessible?
Yes, the south west entrance to the Cathedral (on Saint Patrick’s Close) has a wheelchair ramp that our staff will operate for you. For those with mechanised wheelchairs, our staff will welcome you through another gate. Once inside, the Cathedral is all on one level. There is also a wheelchair accessible bathroom. For more information, please consult our Access Welcome Guide.
