“Crossing Oceans, Carrying Song: Anchorage Concert Chorus in Ireland A program of diverse choral works, including original arrangements by our conductor that reflect both heritage and innovation.”
Like a lot of our tour programs, it’s a hodgepodge of various choral works that reflects the kinds of works ACC has performed. It really shows the choral tradition and interests of the Chorus.
The program includes:
- some choral gems (Brahms and Parry)
- some new works (When the Earth Stands Still, Look to the Day, Selene’s Boat)
- one with a social message (All of Me)
- stylistic twists on old favorites (Now Thank We All Our God)
- our state song (Alaska’s Flag — not many US states have songs that are well-known to its citizenry but all Alaskan school children learn this and we all know it. I embellished the tune giving it a more concert “anthem-like” quality)
- a number of folk songs arrangements (Water is Wide, Simple Gifts, Scarborough Fair) that I have created. We like to take them on tour as something unique to our group and, again, a reflection of who we are.
