Summer Family Workshop: Medieval Calligraphy

  • Family events
  • Fri 11 Jul
  • 11:00 - 13:00 (drop-in)
  • Free

Looking for a creative way to spend your summer with the family? Step back in time to the Middle Ages at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral with our medieval calligraphy workshop!

Children will discover how paper, ink, and quills were made in the past. They’ll get to touch real materials like parchment and oak gall ink, and try their hand at writing with an authentic feather quill—just like medieval scribes!

With their new calligraphy skills, participants will be free to write their own diary entry or short story to take home

BONUS!

If you joined our Bookbinding Workshop the day before, bring your handmade book—it’s the perfect canvas to transform into your very own medieval-style manuscript, written with ink and feather quills!

Recommended for children aged 8 and up. This workshop will run on a drop-in basis—feel free to stop by the South Transept anytime between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Booking is recommended.
Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult during their visit.
