Access Welcome Guide

Welcome

Saint Patrick’s Cathedral is committed to ensuring that all visitors have a full and equal opportunity to benefit from everything that we offer. To understand the information, services, and facilities that are available at the Cathedral, please see below.

If we have not covered your access needs in this document, please contact us at +353 (0) 1 453 9472 or email info@stpatrickscathedral.ie, and we will be happy to discuss your needs and provide assistance wherever we can.

Getting Here

The Cathedral’s Eircode is D08 H6X3. We are located at the junction of Patrick Street and Upper Kevin Street. There is limited parking available in the city centre; however, there are a small number of disabled parking bays on the Cathedral Close. These are managed by Dublin City Council and the Cathedral is unable to reserve parking. There are several bus stops outside the Cathedral, served by Dublin Bus and other operators. There are a number of taxi operators in the area. The Cathedral is well connected by bus to Dublin Airport.

Key Accessibility Features

We have the following information in large print:

  • Welcome information
  • Service sheets

All visitors are provided with a floor plan showing accessible facilities. Information is available in English Braille, and visitors may use physical audio guide units or the digital version on their own mobile devices.

General emergency evacuation plans are in place for visitors with disabilities. If you would like to know more, please ask a member of our team.

Visitors with additional access needs can skip the queue and access the building more quickly, depending on the availability of staff.

There is an assistive listening system available throughout the Cathedral, i.e.: a hearing loop.

A designated quiet space in the Cathedral is available during visiting times: the Lady Chapel at the east end of the Cathedral. During service times, it is not possible to visit the Lady Chapel.

Depending on availability, a wheelchair can be borrowed.

A designated accessible toilet designed for wheelchair users, and others with visible and non-visible accessibility requirements, is available within the main public area. This has step-free access, grab rails, and an emergency assistance alarm within reach from the floor.

Seating is available at regular intervals throughout the Cathedral to support visitors who need to rest.

A wheelchair-accessible viewing area with step-free access is available, providing an optimal vantage-point for view performances, presentations or activities.

Although the main entrance features steps, there is a lift, and there is also an alternative step-free route with a firm surface from the road. This entrance can be accessed by speaking to a member of staff at the gate.

An automatic door is available at the main entrance and is operated by a push button.

There is step-free access to most areas in the Cathedral. There are two floor levels throughout the building, and these are accessible by steps or ramps.

The retail space is wheelchair accessible.

Staff are available to assist disabled customers if required.
