The Buena Vista University Concert Choir and Vista Chamber Singers hail from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. It is the mission of BVU to prepare students for lifelong success through transformational academic, professional, and co-curricular programs. Choirs at BVU live out this mission every day in the way we approach music making. BVU musicians believe in the transformative power of music to uplift and inspire. We see music preparation and ensemble performance as a way of celebrating one another as we reflect on the past and look to the future. The members of BVU Choirs are undergraduate students ages 18 to 22, representative of a plurality of academic majors and come to BVU from all over the Midwestern United States. This is the choir’s first time abroad since the reformation of the chorus in 2021 following a brief suspension due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The BVU Concert Choir is a 60-member unauditioned ensemble that performs primarily accompanied works. The Vista Chamber Singers is our select, 16-member auditioned vocal ensemble at BVU specializing in a cappella music. The choirs at BVU perform a large variety of repertoire ranging from folk, to world music, classical, to musical theatre and popular genres. Choirs at BVU are led by Director of Choral Activities, Christopher Phalen and accompanied by collaborative pianist, Barbara Wells.

Our concert theme, In Meeting We Are Blessed, is the title of one of the works on our program, written by Dr. Troy Robertson, and perfectly expresses our feelings of connectedness through the musical community we have created in our classrooms, concert halls, and now around the world in the people we have met while sharing in the joy of music. We feel blessed to have this opportunity to share music and life with you along the way!
