Looking for a creative way to spend your summer with the family?

As part of our summer family programme and the Liberties Festival, step back in time to the Middle Ages at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral with our medieval calligraphy workshop!

In this hands-on session, children will discover how paper, ink, and quills were made in the past. They’ll get to touch real materials like parchment and oak gall ink, and try their hand at writing with an authentic feather quill, just like medieval scribes!

With their new calligraphy skills, participants will be free to write their own name sign or short story to take home.

Recommended for children aged 8 and up. This workshop runs on a drop-in basis. Feel free to stop by the Mews Building anytime between 11:00 and 1:00pm.

Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult during their visit.

How to get there: To access the Mews Building, please use the door on Saint Patrick’s Close, directly across from the churchyard gate. A member of staff will be there to welcome you in!

Drop-in anytime between 11:00-13:00. Booking is required: choose an approximate arrival time when reserving your place. The time slot is for arrival only; you’re welcome to enjoy the workshop at your own pace.
