Craicademia crosses over into the Jonathan Swift Festival.
Craicademia is the night where big ideas meet great craic, but for the 300th anniversary of Gulliver’s Travels, we are inflating those ideas to Brobdingnagian proportions. We are teaming up with the Jonathan Swift Festival to celebrate the ultimate satire about a man who survived shipwrecks, tiny politicians, giant wasps, and a floating island of insufferable academics.
What to Expect on the Voyage:
- Lilliputian Lectures: While the ideas are giant, our talks are kept to a strictly Lilliputian length of approximately 30-ish minutes. TED-style, but with an Irish twist, guaranteeing less PowerPoint and far more personality.
- No Laputa-Level Jargon: Swift mercilessly mocked intellectuals who had their heads in the clouds, which perfectly matches our ethos: no jargon, no dry lectures, just ideas worth sharing. Our eclectic speakers, Dr Brendan Twomey, Harry Burton & James Anderson, will keep things grounded, accessible, and entertaining.
- A Feast Fit for a Giant: We are dropping anchor upstairs at “The Loft” in Rascals Brewing, D8. Gorge yourself like a stranded sailor on our fantastic pizza menu and enjoy the private bar, because we firmly believe in good points made over great pints.
- Civilized Satire: There will be space for Q&As after the speakers. However, please leave your tiny spears and petty political grievances at the door; applause is encouraged, but there is absolutely no heckling. Don’t make us break out the ropes.
Curiosity thrives in a welcoming space, so stick around after the interval to share the night, have a laugh, and chat with the speakers, guests, and mates. Grab your tickets via the link before they vanish… and prepare to Swiftly broaden your horizons!
Location: Rascals Brewery, Inchicore, Dublin 8.
