The Wondrous Machine: Autumn Series: David Leigh, organ

The organ of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, all 4 manuals, 81 speaking stops and 4,000 or so pipes of it, is one of the largest instruments of its kind in Ireland though most of the 750,000 visitors who come through our doors each year would be blissfully unaware of its existence. Gifted by the Guinness family back in 1902 as part of the restoration of the Cathedral, it sits neatly high up to the north of the chancel with only a few pipes of the nave division visible from below. Once it’s in full flight it fills every nook and cranny of the Cathedral and has done so daily for nearly 125 years.
This autumn there will be plenty of opportunity to hear this wondrous machine for yourselves with a series of 5 recitals given by St Patrick’s Cathedral Organists and guests from our 2 neighbouring Cathedrals as well.
Admission is free, and programmes will be published in the not too distant future.
